How are faith (Nishtha) and patience (Saburi) related in the philosophy described by Sai Baba, and what is expected of a disciple regarding these virtues?

📖 Chapter 19

The teachings found in Chapter 19 describe an inseparable bond between Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi). They are poetically referred to as 'two sisters, dear as life to each other.' This suggests they are mutually reinforcing and equally essential for a spiritual seeker. The text clarifies that even a very powerful Guru expects his disciple to possess these qualities above all else. Specifically, a disciple is expected to have 'strong faith at the Guru’s feet and the strength of courage which is patience.' Without these, even a person of great virtue or knowledge is considered to be in a pitiable state, with a life lived in vain.
