How are faith and patience related, and why are they considered so crucial for a disciple?

📖 Chapter 19

Chapter 19 illustrates that Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi) are fundamentally interconnected and essential for any spiritual seeker. They are described as being "like two sisters, dear as life to each other," suggesting they are inseparable and mutually reinforcing. The text emphasizes that even a very powerful Guru expects these two qualities from a disciple above all else: "strong faith at the Guru’s feet and the strength of courage which is patience." A person without patience, regardless of their knowledge or virtue, is said to have a life that is "in vain." These two virtues form the foundation of the disciple's offering to the Guru, enabling their spiritual growth.
