From the perspective of the doctor's family in Chapter 34, why was visiting Sai Baba considered a 'last resort'?

📖 Chapter 34

From their perspective, as detailed in Chapter 34, visiting Sai Baba was truly the final option after everything else had failed. The family had placed their faith in modern medicine first, given that the boy's uncle was a doctor. They consulted expert and intelligent surgeons and tried all known native and foreign treatments, to no avail. When medicine failed, they turned to traditional worship of deities, which also did not help. It was only after these remedies reached their limit that they heard of Sai Maharaj. They decided to go, saying, "Let us try this last resort. Perhaps this calamity will be averted." This demonstrates their journey from conventional science and worship to seeking the grace of a living saint when faced with a seemingly hopeless situation.
