From his own perspective, Sai Baba meticulously fulfilled his promise to attend Dev's Udyapan. He explicitly stated to Jog, 'for the sake of My word, I would die; but the words from My mouth shall never be otherwise.' Chapter 40 explains that Baba manifested as a Sanyasi and, just as he said he would, brought two companions with him for the meal. He reacted to Dev's doubt with a sense of surprise, asking Jog to tell Dev, 'You did not recognize Me! Why then did you call Me?'
