For what purpose do saints incarnate on Earth, and what is required for a person to benefit from their stories?

Chapter 23 of the Sai Satcharitra teaches that the incarnations of saints occur on earth out of benevolence, specifically for the salvation of what it calls 'dull-witted souls.' This is presented as a form of grace from the Almighty. The chapter further explains that the ability to appreciate these saints is not universal or automatic. A desire to hear the stories of saints, which ultimately brings happiness and contentment, will only arise in a person's heart if they have sufficient accumulated merit (Punya) in store from their past actions.
