When Jog communicated the contents of Dev's letter, Sai Baba revealed his omniscience. According to Chapter 40, Baba stated that he knew the contents of the letter as soon as it was opened. He then explained exactly how he had fulfilled his promise to Dev. Baba recounted his visit in the guise of a Sanyasi, first appearing alone, which made Dev fearful, and then returning for the meal with two others, just as he had promised. Baba emphatically stated, "for the sake of My word, I would die; but the words from My mouth shall never be otherwise," confirming to Jog that the promise was indeed kept, even though Dev failed to recognize him.
