Despite personally serving the Sanyasi and his two companions, Dev remained doubtful due to what Chapter 40 describes as a "veil of Maya" that clouded his perception. His mind fixed on the idea that "He is some guest who has come to get a meal," and this state of delusion strengthened. Even with the direct experience of three uninvited guests appearing as promised, Dev's mind was not convinced it was Baba. The doubt was so persistent that he felt the need to seek confirmation from another devotee, Jog, because he lacked the inner conviction or proof that this mysterious event was the fulfillment of Baba's promise to attend.
Even after serving three uninvited guests during his Udyapan, why did Mamlatdar Dev remain doubtful that Sai Baba had visited him?
