Initially, Sai Baba's healing methods were different. Chapter 0 explains that he used to give out conventional medicines to people who were ill. He provided this service completely free of charge. The text even notes that if a patient was not being properly cared for, Maharaj would personally step in to nurse them himself. It was only later that he stopped dispensing medicine and began to exclusively give Udi, or sacred ash, for healing purposes. Maharaj himself confirmed this change in practice, mentioning to the author, "Kaka, I used to give medicine to people before."
Did Sai Baba always use Udi for healing, or did he have other methods before?
