Initially, Maharaj did not exclusively give Udi. He used to provide medicines to people and never accepted money for his services. He was deeply compassionate, and if a patient wasn't being cared for properly, he would personally attend to them. Chapter 0 recounts how Maharaj himself told the author that he used to give medicine before transitioning to other practices. He later stopped giving medicine and started giving only Udi, or ash, which also brought benefits to the people. He explained this shift by saying he stopped giving medicine, started saying 'Hari Hari', and in doing so, he 'met Hari.'
Did Sai Baba always give Udi to his devotees, or did he use other methods to help people when he first arrived?
