Did Sai Baba actually show up for the meal he was invited to by Dev? The story seems a bit confusing.

The text from Chapter 40 presents this ambiguously, reflecting Mamlatdar Dev's own confusion. Dev had invited Baba and was told He would come. However, on the day of the feast, a Sanyasi and two companions, who were uninvited, appeared and were given a meal. Dev himself did not recognize them as being Baba, stating that a "veil of Maya" was spread and his mind remained in a "state of delusion." He later wrote to his friend Jog expressing disappointment that Baba seemed to have broken His word. So, from Dev's perspective at that moment, Baba did not come as expected, and he remained doubtful about what had truly happened.
