Although the Chavadi was a place of great physical hardship, staying there offered Amir Shakkar the profound benefit of Sai Baba's constant company. Chapter 22 explains that his location allowed him to have Baba's vision "automatically without effort." He could easily see Baba every morning and evening during Baba's daily routines of going for alms and saluting the directions. Most importantly, every alternate night when Baba stayed in the Chavadi, there was only a nominal curtain between them, allowing them to talk with calm minds after other devotees had left. This intimate companionship with Sai was a rare benefit not easily enjoyed by others.
Despite the awful conditions of the Chavadi, what were the benefits Amir Shakkar received by staying there?
