Despite being confined to the miserable Chavadi, how did Amir Shakkar's placement actually provide him with unique access to Sai Baba?

📖 Chapter 22

Although Amir Shakkar was forbidden from visiting the Masjid, his nine-month stay in the Chavadi paradoxically offered him frequent and intimate access to Sai Baba. Chapter 22 explains that the Chavadi's location was on Baba's daily route. Amir received an easy vision of Baba going and coming for alms every morning. In the evenings, Baba would come right in front of the Chavadi. Furthermore, on alternate nights when Baba stayed in the Chavadi, only a simple plank door and a curtain separated them. This allowed them to talk with calm minds after the other devotees had left, granting Amir a level of proximity others did not have.
