According to the introduction in Chapter 0, Maharaj's journey to Shirdi began after he spent a few days at Chandbhai's house. He accompanied the wedding procession of Chandbhai's wife's nephew, which was heading to Shirdi. The procession made a stop in a garden near the Khandoba temple, located just outside the village. Maharaj then went into the Khandoba temple, and it was there that he first met a gentleman named Mhalasapati, who was a resident of Shirdi and a goldsmith by caste.
