Describe the scene of the woman who came to Shirdi intending to fast for three days, and how Baba viewed her plan.

πŸ“– Chapter 32

A woman named Mrs. Gokhale arrived in Shirdi with a letter from Kelkar, filled with joy at the prospect of Sai's darshan. As narrated in Chapter 32, she had made a firm resolve in her mind to remain at Maharaj's feet and fast for three consecutive days. This intention, however, was in direct opposition to Baba's own philosophy and practice. Baba taught that one should first eat before contemplating spirituality, famously stating one should "first tie bread to the waist." He knew her plan in advance, having told Dada Kelkar that he would not let his children remain hungry. Her story serves as a key example of Baba's teaching that the trouble of fasting and penance was not the path to God that he endorsed.
