Chapter 0 introduces Mhalasapati, Kashiram Shimpi, and Appa Jagle as three companions in Shirdi who became devoted followers of Maharaj. Before his arrival, the trio was known for their hospitality; they would serve and look after saints, Gosavis, Bairagis, and Fakirs who came to the busy village. Mhalasapati was a goldsmith and devotee of Khandoba. All three became total devotees, though Kashiram and Appa passed away some years later, both on an Ekadashi day. Kashiram, in particular, served Maharaj with his body, mind, and wealth.
