As described in Chapter 44, the moment Sai Baba drew his life force into the crown of his head, his body became motionless as if from a sudden dizziness. While others lost hope, thinking he had passed away, Mhalasapati remained steadfast. He immediately gave his own lap as a pillow for Baba's head. Despite Baba's explicit command to dig a samadhi, Mhalasapati did not act on it, as no one had the courage to do so. Instead, he remained alert day and night, guarding Sai Baba's body without moving from his spot. He fulfilled Baba's other command to not be left or neglected, sitting awake and protecting the seemingly lifeless form while the whole village gathered in stunned amazement.
