During his first encounter with the Fakir, who was Sai Baba, Chand Patil witnessed several miracles that left him stunned. As Chapter 5 recounts, after Baba learned Patil's horse was lost, he told him to search near the streams, and the mare was found immediately. Convinced he had met a saint, Patil returned to the Fakir. Baba then demonstrated more divine power by thrusting a pair of tongs into the earth to pull out a glowing ember for his chillum. Furthermore, when water was needed to wet the cloth for the pipe, he struck his short stick (satka) on the ground, causing water to flow forth. These wonders confirmed Baba's saintly nature to Patil.
