Describe the medical situation of the doctor's nephew from Malegaon and the extent of the treatments tried before his family sought Sai Baba's help.

📖 Chapter 34

According to the account in Chapter 34, the nephew of a degree-holding doctor in Malegaon suffered from a grievous ailment known as a bone-cyst (Hadyavran). This was described as a 'most difficult and extraordinary malady' that caused the young boy great pain and distress. The text emphasizes that all conventional medical options were exhausted. Chapter 34 states that the boy's uncle, a physician, along with his expert physician and surgeon friends, tried 'various treatments' and became 'exhausted and felt helpless.' They attempted all 'native and foreign treatments' and even surgery, but nothing succeeded, and the disease showed no improvement. It was only after these extensive medical efforts failed that the family considered spiritual intervention and decided to go to Shirdi.
