According to Chapter 31, upon arriving in Shirdi, the sannyasi Vijayananda met Swami Somdevji from Haridwar. The Swami discouraged him by describing the journey to Mansarovar as being 500 miles long, with heavy snow and hardships for outsiders, which made the sannyasi dejected. He then took Sai Baba's darshan and felt pleased, but the situation quickly changed. Baba's disposition was suddenly disturbed, and He ordered the assembly to send the sannyasi away, stating there was "no companionship for work."
