The initial meeting was a stroke of luck at Dahanu Station. A Sanyasi raising funds for a cow shelter was advised by the Station Master to seek help from the Mamlatdar. As Chapter 40 recounts, the Mamlatdar (Dev) himself arrived at the station unexpectedly at that very moment. The Sanyasi pleaded his case, asking Dev to champion the cause of cow protection. However, Dev pragmatically explained that the timing was poor. He informed the Sanyasi that another major collection was already underway in the town, led by prominent citizens. Dev advised that there was no room for another fundraising drive at that time and suggested the Sanyasi return after two to four months.
