Chapter 0 details a violent encounter Kashiram had with Bhil robbers. While returning from a market on his horse, robbers attacked. After they took some of his belongings, they reached for a small bundle he carried. Believing it held treasure, they fought him for it. During the scuffle, a thief dropped his sword, which Kashiram promptly used to kill two of the attackers. However, a third thief then struck Kashiram on the head with an axe, knocking him unconscious. The robbers left him for dead, but he eventually regained consciousness and, due to his immense faith, insisted on being taken to Shirdi rather than a hospital.
