Upon his arrival in Shirdi, Sai Baba was first welcomed by Mhalasapati at the Khandoba temple. As Chapter 0 explains, Mhalasapati then introduced Baba to his companions, Kashiram Shimpi and Appa Jagle. This trio formed the initial support system for Baba in the village. It is noted that these three men already had a well-established practice of serving and looking after the various saints, Gosavis, Bairagis, and Fakirs who frequently passed through the busy village of Shirdi.
