When Sai Baba spoke to him in a voice that perfectly mirrored his deceased father's, the friend was so deeply moved and amazed that he "melted inside." In that moment, he forgot his previous convictions and spontaneously bowed his head at Baba's feet, breaking the first of his two conditions.
