After being struck by an axe and left for dead by robbers, Kashiram eventually regained consciousness. As Chapter 0 recounts, his faith in Sai Baba was so absolute that he refused to go to a hospital for treatment. Instead, he insisted, "Take me to Shirdi." Upon his arrival, he was treated by Madhavrao Deshpande, but specifically on Maharaj's instructions. The text makes it clear that it was by Sai Baba's grace that Kashiram's health improved and he made a full recovery. For his bravery during the confrontation, Kashiram was also honored with a sword as a gift from the Bombay government.
