Describe Sai Baba's early habits regarding money and how they evolved over time.

📖 Chapter 14

In his early days, Sai Baba demonstrated a profound detachment from material wealth. Chapter 14 describes that for a long time, he took nothing from anyone and would simply collect burnt sticks to fill his pockets. If someone did place a small coin before him, he would use it to purchase tobacco or oil for his chillum. He was particular about the offerings, as the text notes that if someone placed a large copper coin, he would return it as it was. This practice evolved when his followers began to feel that it was inappropriate to visit a saint empty-handed. It was for their sake that he began to formally accept Dakshina.
