Upon arriving in Shirdi, following the advice of Das Ganu, Ratanji's first encounter with Sai Baba was one of deep reverence. According to Chapter 14, he went to the Masjid for darshan and immediately prostrated at Sai's feet, feeling a surge of love. He then opened a basket, placed a flower garland around Baba's neck, and offered a weight of fruits at His feet. Sitting humbly near Baba, Ratanji made a prayer, expressing his faith that Baba helps those in great calamity. After Ratanji's prayer and offerings, Baba's initial response, as recorded in Chapter 14, was to ask him, "You have come today; what Dakshina (offering) will you give Me? Then you will be fulfilled."
