For the Chavadi procession, Sai Baba wore His usual kafni, tucked His short stick (satka) under His arm, carried His tobacco and pipe, and had a cloth over His shoulder. A significant part of His preparation, as detailed in Chapter 37, involved Tatya Patil. Their mutual love was so great that Baba would wait for Tatya to arrive before leaving. Tatya would place a beautiful golden-bordered shawl over Baba and adjust it properly on His head. He would then put his hand under Baba's arm to help Him rise, signifying the start of the procession.
