Tatya Ganpati Patil Kote held a uniquely close relationship with Maharaj, whom he affectionately called 'Mama' or maternal uncle. As Chapter 0 describes, Maharaj had great love for Tatya and pampered him in many ways. This bond was rooted in the service of Tatya's mother, Bayajabai, who faithfully gave Maharaj alms when others in the village considered him mad.
