Just before departing for the Chavadi, Sai Baba would perform a couple of distinct rituals. After Tatya Patil had helped Him up and draped a shawl over Him, Baba would walk over to a bundle of firewood kept against a wall. As noted in Chapter 37, He would move His right big toe at that specific spot for a moment. Immediately after this, He would approach the burning flame in the Masjid and, personally waving His right hand over it, He would extinguish the fire. Only after completing these two actions would Sai Baba set out for the Chavadi procession.
