Chapter 10 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra provides a fascinating account of Baba's sleeping habits. He would sleep on a very narrow wooden plank, described as being only one span (about nine inches) wide and four cubits long. This plank was suspended from the rafters, like a swing, held by old rags. What made it even more mysterious was that no one ever saw him get on or off this precarious bed, even though lamps burned at his head and feet.
