Chapter 48 of Shri Sai Satcharitra clarifies that certain external practices or intellectual abilities are not the true signs of a Sadguru. The wise do not consider someone a Sadguru merely for their study of the Vedas or six Shastras, or for their ability to explain Vedanta. Similarly, practices like controlling the breath (Pranayama), wearing heated marks (Taptamudra), or pleasing an audience with talks about Brahman are not sufficient qualifications. The chapter points out that giving mantras from scriptures is also not a definitive sign, especially when the teacher lacks the self-experience to guarantee the disciple's attainment.
Chapter 48 lists several practices that do not, by themselves, qualify someone as a Sadguru. What are these insufficient qualifications?
