Chapter 23 uses the analogy of a parrot in a cage. What is the deeper spiritual meaning of this comparison?

📖 Chapter 23

The analogy of the parrot in a cage, found in Chapter 23, is used to describe the condition of the human soul deluded by Maya. The parrot, though captive, considers its cage a source of happiness and doesn't know the wonder of freedom. Similarly, the soul forgets its true nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss and becomes attached to the body and sensual pleasures, which are like the cage's "golden bars" and "sweet chilies." The soul remains trapped in this state of dependence, believing it is happiness, until a true Guru, an "extraordinary master," comes to apply the ointment of knowledge to its eyes and reveal the reality of spiritual freedom.
