Chapter 10 contrasts the path of devotion to a Guru with intellectual pursuits. How does it explain the superiority of the devotional path?

📖 Chapter 10

In Chapter 10, the path of devotion to a Sadguru is presented as a more direct and effective means to liberation compared to intellectualism. The text states that where the service of the Sadguru is pure, there is "no need for the struggle of logic, Mimamsa, or other intellectual acrobatics." This implies that while intellectual paths can be arduous and complex, pure devotion bypasses these struggles entirely. The chapter uses the analogy of a boatman, suggesting that to cross the ocean of existence, one must simply place trust in the Guru. In return, the Guru, seeing the devotee's faith, places Knowledge (Samvitti) directly in their hands, making the attainment of liberation and bliss an effortless process, unlike the great effort required by other sadhanas.
