Can you tell me the story about Sai Baba, the eggplants, and the Purandare family?

📖 Chapter 9

Certainly. Chapter 9 recounts a beautiful story illustrating Baba's connection with his devotees. A lady gave eggplants to the Purandare family, who were traveling to Shirdi. She requested them to prepare a mashed dish ('bharit') and fried slices ('kachrya') for Baba. The family arrived in Shirdi and, after the Arati, offered the 'bharit' as Naivedya. Later, while eating, Baba, who had enjoyed the bharit, specifically asked for the 'kachrya'. This caused a stir because it wasn't eggplant season and no one knew about the plan for fried slices. A search revealed that the lady who brought the bharit had the remaining eggplants, and everyone understood that Baba, in his omniscience, knew of the devotee's loving wish to serve him both dishes.
