Can you tell me the complete story of Cholkar and his vow to Sai Baba?

📖 Chapter 15

The story of Cholkar is a beautiful illustration of Sai Baba's omniscience and compassion. As detailed in Chapter 15, Cholkar was a poor man whose livelihood depended on passing an examination. He made a vow to Baba that if he passed, he would visit Shirdi and distribute sugar candy. By Baba's grace, his wish was granted. However, due to financial constraints, he couldn't fulfill the vow immediately. As a personal penance for the delay, Cholkar gave up eating sugar entirely, even taking his tea without it. When he finally reached Shirdi and had Baba's darshan, he fulfilled his vow by distributing sugar. The story beautifully culminates when Baba, who did not drink tea, specifically instructed that Cholkar be given tea "well-filled with sugar," revealing that He was aware of Cholkar's secret sacrifice all along.
