Chapter 31 introduces a sannyasi named Vijayananda from Madras who was on a pilgrimage to Mansarovar. Hearing of Sai Baba's great fame, he decided to stop in the village of Shirdi to seek His darshan. Upon arriving, he met another swami who gave him discouraging news about the difficulty of the journey to Mansarovar, which left Vijayananda feeling dejected and worried.
