Once Sai Baba was seated on the mattress in the pure, crystal-fixed Chavadi, a beautiful scene of devotion unfolded. As described in Chapter 37, He would lean against a bolster while devotees, young and old, gathered at His feet, bound by love. Devotees would move the chowrie and fan on both sides of Him. Madhavrao (Shama) would prepare the tobacco pipe, which Tatyaba would light and take the first puffs from before handing it to Baba. After Baba's first puff, the pipe would be passed among the devotees in a circle, creating a shared, sacred experience in the presence of their decorated and radiant Guru.
