Certainly. About a month before the main events of this story, a Sanyasi, who appeared to be Bengali and was a volunteer for a cow institution, came to the Station Master at Dahanu to seek donations. As recorded in Chapter 40, the Station Master advised him to approach the Mamlatdar, Dev. In a stroke of luck, just as they were speaking, the Mamlatdar himself arrived at the station. The Sanyasi then explained his heart's desire to Dev, pleading that the religious work of cow protection would not succeed without the support of an officer like him. However, Dev explained that another collection was already underway in the town and that the timing was not favorable. He asked the Sanyasi to return in two or four months.
