Can you explain why Sai Baba started accepting Dakshina, even though he initially refused money?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 14

Initially, Sai Baba demonstrated complete detachment from material possessions, asking nothing from anyone and often collecting simple burnt sticks. As Chapter 14 explains, if someone left a small coin, he would use it for necessities like tobacco or oil. However, his followers began to feel that it was improper to approach a saint for 'darshan' empty-handed. This sentiment among the devotees is what led him to begin accepting Dakshina. As his fame grew and worship became more ritualized, the practice became more established, aligning with the traditional rules of Guru-worship which include offerings to complete the ritual.
