According to the teachings in Chapter 19, the bond between the Soul (Atma) and the body is a unique and paradoxical one. It is described as a "supreme, unavoidable exception" to the rule that friendship exists between those with similar natures. The chapter points out that the body is perishable while the Soul is changeless and imperishable, yet their affection is so extraordinary that they cannot bear to be apart. It is precisely because of this immense love and attachment between the different natures of the Soul and body that the cycle of worldly existence, or Samsara, is said to continue.
