The rituals included the final sipping of water (Uttaraposhan), rinsing the mouth (Shuddhachaman), and the offering of fragrant water, mouth fresheners, sandalwood paste, flowers, betel leaves, perfume, and rosewater. Despite serving these three uninvited guests personally and ensuring they were thoroughly satisfied, the thought that the Sanyasi could be Sai Baba never occurred to Dev, and he remained in a state of delusion and doubt.
