Chapter 31 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra introduces a sannyasi from Madras named Vijayananda. He was on a pilgrimage to Mansarovar but, having heard of Sai Baba's great fame, he felt a longing for darshan and stopped in Shirdi. There, he met Swami Somdevji, who described the arduous 500-mile journey to Mansarovar, causing Vijayananda to become dejected. When he finally took darshan of Sai Baba, his mind was pleased, but Baba's mood suddenly changed.
