Before setting out for the Chavadi, Sai Baba followed a specific set of actions as detailed in Chapter 37. He would wait for Tatya Patil to arrive, who would then help Him to his feet. After having a golden-bordered shawl placed over Him, Baba would approach a bundle of firewood. He would then move His right big toe at that spot for a moment. Immediately after, He would personally wave His right hand over the burning flame there to extinguish it. Only after completing this ritual would He begin the procession to the Chavadi, at which point the celebratory music and fireworks would commence.
