Just before departing for the Chavadi, Sai Baba performed a distinct set of actions. Chapter 37 explains that after being ready in His kafni and with His satka and chilim, Baba would approach a bundle of firewood against a wall. He would move His right big toe at that spot for a moment. Following this, He would wave His right hand over the burning flame that was there, personally extinguishing it. Only after completing this specific ritual would Sai Baba set out for the grand procession to the Chavadi.
