Sai Baba's journey to Shirdi began after he encountered a man named Chandbhai. According to Chapter 0, the Maharaj first demonstrated his miraculous powers by locating Chandbhai's lost horse and creating fire from the ground with his tongs. After staying at Chandbhai's house for a few days, he accepted an invitation to join a wedding procession for Chandbhai's wife's nephew, whose bride was from Shirdi. The procession stopped in a garden near the Khandoba temple just outside the village, which is how Maharaj first came to Shirdi and soon after met his early devotees.
