Chand Patil witnessed two remarkable events upon meeting the Fakir, who was Sai Baba. As detailed in Chapter 5, the first miracle was the recovery of his lost mare. After two months of fruitless searching, the Fakir simply told him to 'go search near those streams,' and the mare was found immediately. This amazed Patil, making him realize he had met a saint, or 'Avaliya'. The second wonder occurred shortly after, when the Fakir wanted to light his pipe (chillum). He took a pair of tongs, thrust them into the earth right there, and miraculously pulled out a glowing ember to light the tobacco.
