Chapter 31 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra introduces a sannyasi from Madras named Vijayananda. He was on a pilgrimage to Mansarovar and also intended to visit Japan. Hearing of Sai Baba's renown, he decided to stop in Shirdi for darshan. Upon his arrival, he met Swami Somdevji, who described the extreme hardships of the journey to Mansarovar, including heavy snow and language barriers, which caused the sannyasi to become dejected and worried. When Vijayananda finally had Sai Baba's darshan, he felt pleased, but his contentment was short-lived as Baba's mood shifted and He ordered the sannyasi to be sent away.
