According to the Introduction (Chapter 0), the journey of the figure later known as Sai Baba to Shirdi began with an encounter with Chandbhai Patil. Maharaj helped Chandbhai locate his lost horse and demonstrated his divine power by striking his tongs on the ground to produce fire for a chillum. After staying at Chandbhai's home for some days, Maharaj accompanied the wedding procession of Chandbhai's wife's nephew, which was traveling to Shirdi. The procession halted in a garden near the Khandoba temple, marking his initial arrival in the village.
