Chapter 37 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra beautifully illustrates the enigmatic and profound nature of Sai Baba. His life story and daily actions are described as blessed, incomprehensible, and marvelous. He could be found in various states: sometimes intoxicated with the bliss of the Self (Brahmananda), sometimes satisfied with Self-knowledge, and at other times performing actions while remaining completely detached. Though He might appear inactive, He was always alert and fixed on His own Self-realization. He was profound like the ocean, difficult to fathom, and treated men as brothers and women as His sisters or mothers, living as a known celibate.
