In his early days in Shirdi, Sai Baba resided in a dilapidated Masjid at night. During the day, he focused on helping people. As detailed in Chapter 0, he would provide medicines to the sick and never accepted any money for his services. He was so compassionate that if a patient was not being cared for properly, he would go and nurse them himself. The text notes that many people who received his care were still living at the time of writing. Later, he stopped giving medicine and instead began giving Udi, or sacred ash, which also brought relief to people.
